From Alaska Women Speak Editor

AWS is proud to celebrate our 15th Anniversary! Fifteen years of continuous publishing is quite an event for an all volunteer publication, and it is due in part to the continued support of you, our loyal readership. Contributors, subscribers, advertisers and distributors all play a crucial role in the success of this journal, and so we say “Thank You!” for all you do.

To celebrate our 15th anniversary we have decided to put together an Anthology, Alaska Women Speak: The First 15 Years. The work is already in progress and, with continued enthusiasm; we hope to have it available for purchase this summer. Check your mailbox, your e-mail, or our website alaskawomenspeak.org for information as we get closer to completion. We plan on sending out order forms so you may reserve your own copy soon!

This issue’s theme “How did you get here?” conjured more theories than we could ever have imagined. Not only planes, trains, and automobiles; but spiritual paths, financial diversions, accidents of birth, vision quests, marital mishaps, dating disasters, and accidental injuries resulted in innumerable stories of growth, challenge and change.

I, myself, have had to rethink where I am and how I got here after an unexpected tragic accident ended a profitable career path, but as with each twist in the road of life, we find that one thing leads to another, and so I find myself here, with a new found passion for what I do, surrounded by inspiring and talented women who share the road ahead.

If you cannot look back and figure out how you got “here” then just take a moment and look around. I think you will see that though the path may have been circuitous and confusing, the result is a place with a sense of community and creative opportunity that inspires us to continue on “the road less traveled” (which may mean the theories of M. Scott Peck, or a guide to the Haul Road and the Bering Road.)

In my new position as Managing Editor I welcome the ideas, insight and inspiration that I gain from each of you as we travel this path together.

Roberta

Great Quote - " I say that if each person in this world will simply take a small piece of this huge thing, this tablecloth, bedspread, whatever, and work on it regardless of the color yarn, we will have harmony on this planet."
